The Flirting with Disaster team rounds the first corner of the obstacle course pulling a metal sled or chariot. The object of the race is that each person of the four person team must attach the chariot to their quad, pull it around an obstacle course to where they picked it up. Then dismount the quads and run on foot to the finish line. The team that does that the fastest is declared the winner.

It is that time of year again.

The Henry Battenfelder Memorial ATV Rodeo, held June 3 – 4 and located approximately 30 kilometres southwest of the Town of Barrhead, was expected to draw close to 300 participants and spectators according to owner and host Mike Battenfelder.

“It was pretty much the same as last year but heading into this year’s season, we did a little bit of developmental work out on the drag track, extending it to 900 feet in length and made it 180 feet wide,” Battenfelder said, adding he believes the event itself is a pretty unique experience.

“The rodeo has been going on for more than 15 years now. What started out as a conglomeration between myself, my dad Henry and a few of my cousins has grown into something much bigger than we thought it would. We’re all adrenaline junkies.”
