The Barrhead Steelers gave fans at the Barrhead Agrena a reason to cheer as they easily dispatched their Edson Sabre opponents 7 to 2 on Friday, Jan. 15.

Although at the beginning of the game it didn’t look like the Steelers were going to be in for an easy night. Edson opened the scoring scoring just short of the four minute mark on a goal by Jordon Wilcox.

Steelers assistant captain Zach Laun returned the favour about five minutes later tying the game one-all. With only two minutes to go in the period Thomas Berrett of the Sabres scored to put Edson up 2 to 1 in what was basically an evenly played period.

However, in the second period the tide started to turn in favour of the Steelers. At the five-and-a-half minute mark Mitch Carstairs evened the score two goals a piece. Six minutes later, Tanner Whiting scored what would prove to be the game winning goal, but it wasn’t until late in the second period when the Steelers truly took over the game. At about the 17 minute mark of the third period, while they were on a power play, the Steelers gave up a a shorthanded breakaway which was turned away by starting goaltender Zach Monroe. A minute later Steeler Nick Botros scored a powerplay goal on a onetimer blast from a pass from Danny Dekker.

From there on the Steelers had a decided edge in the play scoring three more unanswered goals by Koby Adams (2) and Aedon Card. Zach Monroe stopped 24 out of 26 shots to earn the win.
