The Barrhead Midget B Renegades got off to a quick start scoring two goals in the first three-and-a-half minutes in the game, including one on a two-on-zero breakaway, on their way to a 6-1 win against Onoway on Saturday, Nov. 5 at the Agrena. However, after the quick start both teams settled down and played strong defensive hockey with the Renegades holding a slight edge in both territorial play and shots on net.

Starting in the second period the Renegades ran into penalty trouble taking seven minor penalties.

For the most part Barrhead was able to weather the storm, in part, due to a strong penalty kill and good goaltending from goaltender Mathew Carstairs. At about the four minute mark of the period, Onoway scored their only goal of the game on a two-man power play.

At the end of the second period Barrhead seemed to get their legs back and responded with three goals within three minutes ending the period leading 5 to 1.

In the third period the Renegades added to their total, scoring another goal helping them cement the victory.

Head coach Greg Scheffler said once his players settled down and stopped taking unnecessary penalties they were able to play their game.

“Once we figured out the way we were going to win and get our chances offensively was by staying out of the box, we were fine,” he said, adding fatigue may have played a factor in the penalties as the Renegades were playing their second game in as many nights. Barrhead played to a 5-5 tie against the CNN Spurs on the road.
