Before the game Barrhead Flyers head coach Darren Dancause asked his team to win their final Interlock-1660 playoff game for the consolation final.

And that is exactly what they did when they defeated the New Sarepta Peewee Eagles in the second game of a home and home total point series March 20 at the Barrhead Agrena 8 to 7.

The night before New Sarepta defeated Barrhead 8 to 6 meaning in order to win the consolation final the Flyers needed to win by a minimum of two goals to force overtime.

“It was a great game for the boys. We haven’t had a lot of success against New Sarepta this season,” Dancause said, adding New Sarepta had won all the previous matchups this season. “For them to go out and play like they did and come out of here with the win was a real momentum builder for us going into the provincial championships.”

In the first period the Flyers played New Sarpeta to a 3-all-tie with goals from Ceasar Marquez, Alex Hiemstra, assists awarded to Marquez and Kayden Rentz, and Carsen Anderson assisted by Rentz.

In the second period the Barrhead outscored their opponents three goals to two, with markers coming from Carter Grelaich, assisted by Tray Preuss on the power play, Rentz, assisted by Marquez and Marquez from Anderson and Rentz.

In the third period Anderson, assisted by Marquez, and Rentz, with assists being awarded to Marquez and Emma Weeks rounded off Barrhead’s scoring. Brady Callihoo stopped 30 of 37 shots for the win.

The Flyers finished the regular season with a 14-6-2 record. In league playoffs Barrhead lost to Winfield, before winning against Sturgeon in two straight games, before losing to New Sarpeta due to point deferential.

Barrhead qualified for the provincial championships, which were held in Le Crete Alberta from March 22 to 25 by defeating Onoway and the CR Knights. As of press deadline the results from the provincial championships were not known.
