Hindsight only useful after the fact

I should have brought a lock. Would have, should have, could have.

I should have brought a lock.

Would have, should have, could have.

I know if your belongings aren’t properly protected then they are fair game, at least as far as the more unscrupulous members of our society are concerned, but that’s not why I’m writing this column.

I’ve never been to the pool in Westlock when it is busy.

I guess I have just always lucked out and only gone when there are only a few people about.

Either way, the other day was a different story.

When I found out there were no locks available after having paid to swim, I probably should have just left or gone to Giant Tiger first.

I would have saved myself some anxiety and confusion.

You see, I would have been devastated if my phone, car keys or wallet had been stolen because then I’d have truly been in a pickle — I couldn’t have called for a cab, or cancelled my cards, and I would have been an hour from my house.

It’s just that you never think it will happen you know?

How was I to know that my smartphone, credit cards and my car were less valuable than my skivvies.

Yes, you heard that right.

My skivvies.

I’m as perplexed as you are.

For the life of me I can’t understand why someone would steal a pair of tighty-whiteys, unless of course after rifling through my belongings they felt jilted that all I had in my wallet was a crisp $5.

My point is to say thank you to the thief.

It could have been a lot worse and if you needed the skivvies, well then pal, they’re yours with my blessing.
