Elvis is coming to Barrhead — well sort of.

To celebrate Senior Week the Barrhead and District FCSS, on June 1, is bringing in Elvis tribute artist Adam Fitzpatrick to perform at the Seniors Drop-In Centre.

Fitzpatrick is a B.C.-based artist who tours the world performing as the King, in all stages of his life, as a solo act or often with Joe Kelso’s, a Roy Orbison impersonator, show.

Fitzpatrick gained world recognition as an Elvis impersonator when he placed second in the World’s Best Ultimate Elvis Contest in Memphis, Tenn. in 2014.

Something he wouldn’t have been able to do if it wasn’t for his roommate who dared him eight years earlier to enter the Penticton Elvis Festival.

Not one to back out of a bet, Fitzpatrick entered the contest in the amateur category, which he won. Shortly after that he started to get invitations to perform as Elvis at various events. Four years later, Fitzpatrick’s Elvis activities were taking up so much of his time that he quit his regular job as a manager of a local Boston Pizza to concentrate solely on his music career.

FCSS’ seniors program manager Debbie White said the opportunity to bring Fitzpatrick to Barrhead also happened by accident.

“One of our regular senior’s pie and coffee attendees is friends with him and his mom so she asked us about the possibility of bringing him here,” she said, adding when she first contacted Fitzpatrick it was to arrange a show next year, but it turned he had a small window during seniors week. “We are so happy that we were able to line everything up with Adam and bring him here to help us celebrate Seniors Week, but you don’t have to be a senior to come to the show.”

Tickets for the concert are $10 and are available through Barrhead FCSS at 5115-45 Street or by calling 780-674-3341.

In addition to the performance, which will include numbers from all stages of Elvis’ career, Fitzpatrick will host a meet-and-greet session. Fitzpatrick’s performance starts at 7 p.m. and doors open at 6:15 p.m.
