The construction of the pool is coming along nicely.
A tour of the facilities by the Barrhead Leader, facilitated by Shallon Touet and Clarke-Builders project manager Mark Robertson, showed exactly that.
“The project is well underway and moving according to schedule,” Robertson said, adding while the grand opening of the new pool is up to Touet, construction will be done in the spring.
The project has not been without its difficulties.
“Underneath this entire building there is weeping tile and water constantly flowing,” Robertson said, adding it all gets piped into the basement’s pump system.
“Right now we are mostly generator-driven but permanent power should be online within two weeks. One of the biggest milestones of this project’s construction was getting the entire building closed in.”
The roofing and wall insulating is almost complete and Robertson said crews have started working inside.
“The shower area, the change rooms, office and other rooms are all being built. The block should all be laid by the end of this month. You can definitely see the bones of this project’s vision taking shape here.”
Robertson said all of the piping, concrete and tile-preparation is complete.
“Once we get the scaffolding up, we are going to fill up the pool and make sure it doesn’t leak.”
Robertson said the entire facility is wheelchair accessible.
“Everything here, from the teaching pool to the lazy river and the whirlpool, it is all barrier-free,” he said, adding there are lifts and zero-entry access ramps for ease of use.
“After Halloween, any day over zero is a gift and we’ve been taking advantage of it.”
