Steelers start season on winning note

The Barrhead Steelers got off to a strong start in their first home game of the season Oct. 12 defeating Devon in a lopsided affair 9-0.

The Barrhead Steelers got off to a strong start in their first home game of the season Oct. 12 defeating Devon in a lopsided affair 9-0.

The Steelers made the most of their opportunities in the first period, scoring three goals on five shots by Owen Weeks (assists to Jeremy DeVries and Brayden Bain), Landon Petiot (assists to DeVries and Bain) and Brendan Bujold (assisted by Sheldon Dewsnap).

In the second period, Barrhead continued its offensive dominance, adding to their lead with goals by Devyn Kerr (assisted by Justin Haltiner) and DeVries (assists to Dylan Stoik and Nash Hodgetts).

In the third period, the Steelers added to their total by scoring four unanswered goals by DeVries (assists to Stoik and Petiot), Petiot (assists to Blake Starman and Dewsnap), Luke Szybunka (assists to Bujold and Petiot) and Bujold (assist to Szybunka).

Starting goaltender Branden Meier went the distance stopping all 28 shots he faced for the win.
