Regulatory uncertainty leads to lack of competitiveness

Dear Editor,

The Federal Liberals should sit up and take heed of what Imperial Oil CEO, Rich Kruger has to say about Canada’s competitiveness and regulatory uncertainty in our energy sector investments. In an interview with BNN Bloomberg investigator, April Fong, when asked about global investment sentiment surrounding Canada, Rich Kruger stated, “areas of particular concern certainly are the pipelines – expanded market access is on everyone’s mind.” These comments come as energy giants retreat from the Canadian Oil and Gas Industry. Royal Dutch Shell announced in May they will sell their entire stake in Canadian National Resources LTD, (4.3 billion). Imperial Oil will not make any new growth investment. Canada is the richest resource access in the world and investors are turning away from long term investment. These decisions were made because of the resulting East/West relations in Canada, and organized anti-solidarity sentiment against Alberta. This foreign investment withdrawal is a precursor towards Liberal policies that place greenhouse gas emissions top priority over clear concise control governing the oil and gas resources. The Liberals have divided Canada’s energy resources. The needs of the few, (Quebec refineries) outweigh the needs of the many, (Alberta’s economy). Shipping foreign resources into one local market while the resources you have sit idle, makes no sense to anyone. Until the west receives equal representation in Canada; we will always be second class rednecks. Those that hold themselves above the common working man make sure there are no crumbs that fall off their table. We Albertans’ have built an economy based on the resources nature gave us; only to have it taken away by a government that holds itself above the common, playing at being French royalty; or are we controlled by the Arab nation? If it’s about the aboriginal, then give them their percentage and move on before you can’t step back from the injustice committed.
