Provided the weather proves to be co-operative, the Highridge Agricultural Society will host its 16th annual Amateur Open Rodeo this Saturday, July 13.

Last year’s rodeo drew over 100 entries for a range of rodeo events, including bareback riding, tie down roping, breakaway riding, mini broncs, barrel racing, team roping, wild pony races and, of course, bull riding.

This year’s event is promising to be even bigger, with as many as 10 bull riders, more than 50 team ropers, 20 ladies breakaway riders, 17 junior breakaway riders, 50 barrel racers and 14 mini-bronc riders. Of course, this is all dependent on the weather.

Prior to the rodeo, there will be a community barbecue on Friday, July 12 from 5-7 p.m. at the Highridge Hall. This is the first time that the ag society is hosting this event and it will be free to the public.

The following day, gates open at 8 a.m. and the rodeo starts at 1 p.m. The price of admission is $5 per person.

There will then be a brisket dinner from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tickets are $5 for children under 13 and $10 for everyone else.

The dance will follow the dinner at 9 p.m. Ticket prices are the same as the dinner.
