“It has been a busy 24 hours,” Barrhead Regional Fire Services (BRFS) deputy chief Ted Amos told the Barrhead Leader upon arriving at the scene of a structure fire near Lac La Nonne March 12.
First, the department was called out to a structure fire at Moonlight Bay Estates shortly before noon. When they arrived, they found a stand-alone shop close to two other buildings that was fully engulfed in flames.
Although the shop and its contents were destroyed, as well as a nearby off-highway vehicle and fifth wheel, fire chief Gary Hove said firefighters did a good job of ensuring it didn’t spread to other the other buildings.
No one was seriously injured, but one person was treated on scene for minor smoke inhalation.
While they were still in the process of putting out the hotspots and had not had a chance to investigate the cause of the fire, Hove indicated it may have started because of a spark that was created when a person was doing some repair work on a vehicle in the shop.
On March 11, BRFS responded to reports of a mobile home fire in Tiger Lily at about 2:30 p.m. and Hove said no one was home at the time of the fire.
“It was about two-thirds engulfed when we got there, but the guys did a good job and were able to save some items,” he said.
The cause of the Tiger Lily fire is also under investigation.
