Do we care to know?

Dear Editor:

Last week there was a mass shooting in Trenton, New Jersey.  22 people were injured by gunshots, including a 13-year-old, but fortunately for the families involved, none of these 22 died.  One of the gunmen is dead and another is in custody.  We didn’t hear about this on the news.

In 2013, according to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement records, 72,410 individuals who were deported said they had one or more US-born children.  This information is available at the American Immigration Council’s Immigration Impact website.

My question is, why have neither of these been reported by the mainstream media?  It seems like the press want ALL the focus to be on Trump and his perceived evil-doings, neglecting to mention that the separation of children from illegal immigrants has been going on for years and years.  Trump didn’t invent this awful practice.  In fact, it is common for people who do illegal things to be separated from their children, not only in regards to immigration.

Does the media want us to know the truth?

Sincerely,

Dorothy Bysterveld
