Some changes are  coming this year to the annual Barrhead & District 4-H Achievement Day show and sale of beef and sheep.

Sally Hill, President of the Barrhead District 4-H says the 55th Annual show will still be held in the Ag Society Barn and will still be the last Monday of May, which is just two weeks away – May 27.

There are still four clubs involved, including Freedom-Naples, Camp Creek Multi, T&M Beef and Meadowview. There are perhaps a few more members than last year, and that is a positive, and their will still be both sheep and beef shown throughout the day, with the sale in the evening.

But unlike previous years, Hill says the champion and reserve champion steer and market lamb won’t be chosen during the day. Instead, this year, the champion and reserve champion animals from each club will be brought out for the final judgement before the audience of parents and buyers.

In past years, the champion selection was made during the day prior to the supper and 7:00 p.m. sale. Only a handful of parents and members got to watch the selection. Hill feels this way, it will create more excitement and afford parents and buyers the opportunity to watch the champion selection from the stands.

She didn’t say, but having been at the Barrhead show and others for more than two decades, it will indeed create more excitement and a build up to a grand finale when the champions are chosen.

The show is open to anyone, and for those who have to work during the day and not had the chance to watch the selection of the champions before, this is your opportunity.

Mark the date: May 27 at the Agriculture Barn in Barrhead, and come and watch these proud young 4-H members show you the best beef and sheep animals in the industry.

And bring along your wallet, and support 4-H, and buy a steer or market lamb.

See you there!
