Bantam Pirates defeat Devon at home

The result was never in doubt. The Barrhead Bantam 1 Pirates easily defeated the Devon 7 to 1 in the first home game of the season. The Pirates dominated the early going, in both time of possession and shots on net.

The result was never in doubt.

The Barrhead Bantam 1 Pirates easily defeated the Devon 7 to 1 in the first home game of the season.

The Pirates dominated the early going, in both time of possession and shots on net. Devon was able to relieve the pressure getting their first shot on net at about the seven-minute mark.

The pressure was shortlived, however, as the Pirates quickly regained control of the puck going on an offensive rush scoring 30 seconds later on a goal by JW Loughran, assisted by Riley Harrison and Kayden Rentz. Two minutes  Kolby Miller added to the Pirates lead with an assist being awarded to Loughran. At the end of the period, the Pirates led 2 to 0 and outshot their opponents 23 to 4.

In the second period, Barrhead continued to press and 10 minutes into the frame Hunter Hansen making it 3 to 0 with a helper to being awarded to Cesar Marquez.

Devon spoiled Brady Callihoo’s shutout bid with a little more than two minutes to go in the period.

In the third period, the offensive floodgates opened for Barrhead scoring four unanswered goals, the first being at about the 11-minute mark on a heavy slapshot from the point by Jase Maskowitz. Axton McCallum scored a minute-and-a-half later on a breakaway from the blueline with Harrison being awarded an assist. Maskowitz (assist by Loughran) scored his second goal, of the game, a shorthanded marker with just under three minutes to go. Loughran scored the final goal of the game with 25 seconds left in the game after being sent on a breakaway with a pass from Tyler Erickson. Callihoo stopped 21 out of 22 shots for the win.
