Reader questions validity of Bill 24

Dear Editor,

When my daughter wants to attend a jujitsu class here in Neerlandia, I have to sign a form giving my consent that she is allowed to do so. The organizers of this class inform me of what happens in this class and how it can affect my daughter. They understand it as their duty.

Why is it that the provincial government does not think it has the same duty to parents when it is involved in something no less crucial - the education of children? It recently passed a law, Bill 24, which among other things prohibits parents from knowing if their child is being exposed to sexual content through a GSA club or a related “activity” as defined by the School Act.

Parents love their children and have the primary responsibility for their well-being.

To do this well, parents need to be fully informed about what goes on at the schools attended by their children, including what their children are taught, and by whom. Bill 24 is a serious infringement of this right.

If you care, please take the time to ensure your MLA and the Education Minister hear from you.
