The Barrhead Leader is an award-winning weekly newspaper in a vibrant, fast-growing community located a short distance northwest of Edmonton.
A team of 10 works out of the Barrhead office, while their cartoonist and indispensable distribution staff work out of the Westlock office and ensure the Leader is delivered promptly every Tuesday.
A two-person newsroom provides extensive coverage of local news and sports, dedicated to keeping the community informed about local events and providing thought-provoking editorials.
The Leader has a verified circulation of just under 4,000 with 87 per cent of adults reading the the Leader every week (ComBase 2005: 2 Year Data).
A second section, Town & Country, runs in the Barrhead Leader, Westlock News, Athabasca Advocate, and Lac La Biche Post and reaches over 16,000 households.
The Leader published its first issue in 1927 as the Barrhead News, the same year Barrhead was founded.
The Barrhead Leader is owned by Great West Newspapers, LP. This partnership has newspapers in several Alberta communities. The president of Great West Newspapers is Duff Jamison, publisher of the St. Albert Gazette. Paul Rockley, publisher of the Okotoks Western Wheel, is executive vice president.
