If contract negotiations between Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers are not successful, a lockout or strike could happen on or after July 2.

According to Canada Post, labour negotiations have been ongoing since 2015 and following a formal 60-day conciliation period, which ended on June 10, 2016, the two parties are now in the middle of a 21-day “cooling off” period.

As such, no legal disruption can occur until July 2.

Canada Post employees in Barrhead have declined to comment on the situation, and despite several attempts made by the editorial staff of the Barrhead Leader to reach the CUPW, as of press time, no comment has been made with regards to mail-delivery contingency planning in our area.

Should a labour action happen, Barrhead Leader subscribers will be able to pick up their papers at the Barrhead Leader office at 5015-51 street, or at one of our convenient locations within our readership area.
