Winter is cold and for folks having a tough time making ends meet, Barrhead has a variety of programs that cater to specific needs — Santa’s Toy Box and the food bank to name two, I’ve noticed there aren’t too many options when it comes to footwear for those without. I like having warm feet but I can also afford appropriate footwear when I need it.

I know times are tough on more than a few of us and some people simply can’t however, and that brings me to the point of this particular column.

A few weeks ago I heard about a campaign called Toasty Toes.

The campaign was started by Albertan chiropractors who donate socks to the homeless and others in need, and after doing some of my own research, I found out Dr. Peter See, Dr. Justin Conrad and Dr. Dan Prociuk are participating.

As well, this year marks the second time Alberta’s chiropractors have partnered with both the United Way and Wood’s Homes for the benefit of this campaign, and I applaud them for doing so.

I would encourage you to reach out to any one of them, or another chiropractor participating in the campaign in the area you live, and drop off a pair of socks.

Every little bit helps.

Call ahead of time though, because I cannot guarantee that every single chiropractor in Alberta is taking part.

That said, if you happen to have a few extra pairs, why not help the Alberta College and Association of Chiropractors reach their goal of 25,000 before the end of September (as of this writing, you’ll have three days) and if you use social media, be sure to contribute to the conversation by using the hashtag #ToastyToes.

I know Barrhead residents already give through their fundraising and volunteer efforts, and organizations such as the FCSS Food Bank certainly benefit from this area’s generosity, but what does a pair of socks cost? $2?
