The Barrhead and District Chamber of Commerce hopes to play Santa Claus to a few lucky individuals while at the same time encouraging would be shoppers to spend their money in Barrhead through its Holiday Shop Local Campaign.

Jackie Miller, lead organizer, said the concept is simple.

“Make a purchase or do a transaction at one of the 55 participating Barrhead-area businesses and you will receive a ballot to enter a draw for a chance to win up to $2,000,” she said.

First prize is $1,000, second prize is $750 and third is $250.

Miller used the word transaction, noting not all of the local businesses that are participating actually sell products.

Miller gave Servus Credit Union, where she works, as an example.

“We don’t sell products in the conventional sense, but every time you make a transaction you will receive a ballot to enter the draw,” she said, adding the winners won’t actually receive money, but ‘Chamber Cash’ which can be used at participating businesses.

Barrhead’s Holiday Shop Local Campaign starts with Light Up on Friday, Nov. 18 and the draw will take place on Dec. 20.

Miller added that the chamber of commerce is working on other Shop Local Campaigns in 2017.
