Reader believes government interfering in parental role

Dear editor: I was disturbed to read in the Sept.

Dear editor:

I was disturbed to read in the Sept. 13 Leader’s editorial that those faith-based school boards who refuse to adopt the provincial government’s policy regarding LGBTQ rights in the school were compared to those who deny that the holocaust happened.

(Editor’s note: The editorial does not compare those school’s to those who don’t adopt Bill 10 to those deny the holocaust. Rather it suggests schools and boards who fail to comply with provincial law and Alberta Education’s requirements, such as if a school decided do if a school decided, to teach something that goes against Alberta Education’s curriculum, using an extreme example). It is sad, but not surprising, that those who do not support the LGBTQ agenda are treated in such a demeaning way. The goal of the movement to demonize their opponents, and this tactic has been very well played, as is readily apparent in the mainstream media of this continent. The LGBTQ movement is not based on fact. The government’s “Guide to Best Practices” and “Prism” curriculum guide are based on “factsheets” that are largely controversial, speculative, and unproven. For every one of their “studies” you can find two more studies that “prove” the opposite. So, what are the views of the LGBTQ movement, then? They are an ideology based on beliefs, not facts. In essence, then, it is a religion; their god: the individual and the pursuit of self-gratification. Why is our government determined to enforce this religion at the expense of all other religions?

Back in 1967 Pierre Trudeau campaigned: “The state has no place in the bedrooms of the nation.” Now the state wants to indoctrinate our grade-school children and teenagers with the bedroom practices of the LGBTQ community. Our government is set to begin a blindly dangerous, radical social experiment with the next generation, and our children are the guinea pigs. The LGBTQ movement is determined that any view opposing their ideology be branded as hate speech, punishable by law. They have made people afraid to cross them or disagree with them, for fear of being shouted down as a bigot and homophobe. And now they are moving on to their next step… indoctrination of the youth, enforced by the state. Christian morals and conscience must be silenced; parents cannot be trusted to pass their views on to their children. The older generation with its values and beliefs will eventually die out. Christian schools - that have policies that no child should be bullied for any reason, that have a higher score than the public school system for safe environments and have a higher rate of graduates going on to be productive, law-abiding contributors to their community and country – these schools and their volunteer-run boards are portrayed as hateful, torch burning, (holocaust-denying) group of bigots who cannot be trusted and should be punished by law for their “hate crime” of disagreeing with them.

The LGBTQ movement, with the help of our government, has intimidated the population to the point where they are afraid to oppose them, has turned the media into its propaganda machine, has painted all its opponents as homophobic enemies, and now wants to force the indoctrination of their sexual ideology on each and every child in this province because parents are not to be trusted with the moral and social direction of the youth. These are the exact measures taken by a European leader back in the late 1930’s to push his ideology on a nation. And you equate Christian school boards with holocaust deniers? Respectfully,

Carl Werkman
