It was a real nail-biter of a game.

According to 1660 league commissioner Ty Asaf, the Barrhead Bantam Pirates played a tight, aggressive game and worked hard during the entire weekend to win the tournament held in Barrhead Dec. 10 - 11.

The Pirates blazed past the visiting NWZ Bandits and the Maskwacis Hawks on Saturday with easy wins and took on the High Prarie Thunder on Sunday, cinching their final qualifier with a score of 13-6.

Going into the finals, the Pirates faced the Elk Point Avalanche.

The first period started off slow for Barrhead with Luke Szybunka scoring their only goal verses three goals from the Avalanche.

Heading into the second period, the score was 1-3 for Elk Point when the Pirates surged ahead with another goal from Szybunka, two from Brendan Bujold and one from Landon Petiot.

Tensions began to rise in the third after a quick wrist shot from Szybunka at the blue line opened the flood gates and the Pirates surged ahead.

With the score now 6-4 for Barrhead, the Avalanche ralled and scored two more — one from Jaden Van Maarion and another from Wolke Cueva, but the Pirates answered back with one from Colton Bondarchuk and another from Szybunka.

The game ended 8-6 for Barrhead.
