It was the battle for Barrhead.

Two novice teams, Barrhead’s 2A Thunder and the 2B Blackhawks, faced off against one another at the Barrhead Agrena on Monday, Jan. 2 in a game that ended 4-4.

Thunder forward Brock Beauliua opened the game up for the Thunder with assists from Locke Montgomery and Kara Scheffler, sending one past Blackhawks goalie Joffrey Timm with three minutes remaining in the first period.

The lead was short-lived however as two minutes later, Blackhawks forward Cash Pendrak answered with one of his own.

Heading into the second period, the Blackhawks swarmed the ice doing their best to keep the puck in their opponent’s zone.

Pendrak scored two more unassisted, five and 15 minutes into the period respectively, earning himself a hat trick.

However, the Thunder answered back with two goals — one from Beauliua, assisted by Garrett Oswald and Rylan Keith, and another by Keith himself, assisted by Nathan Lind and Pamela Properzi.

In the third period, the score once more tied at 3-3, Keith scored against Timms unassisted and it looked like the Thunder were going to take the win, at least until Blackhawks’ player Layne Young snatched that prospect away with only 19 seconds remaining.
