In the first game of a two-game, total points series Jan. 31, the Barrhead Peewee Eagles came out victorious against their rivals, the CR Knights, 6-5 at the Barrhead Agrena.

Assistant coach Nicole Uden said the team played hard.

“We knew [CR Knights] were a good team and we’re proud of our kids,” Uden said.

“We took a couple of penalties and struggled a bit in the second half of the second period but our goalie held onto the lead. I’m hoping the kids take two things away from this game; that they have the potential to win when they work together and try hard, and that you have to play your best until the buzzer goes because if you let off at all, especially against a team like the CR Knights, you will pay for it.”

The CR Knights scored first, two minutes into the opening frame and again 12 minutes later, to end the period leading 2-0.

However, with barely three minutes remaining, Eagles forward Cesar Barrios scored with an assist from Trysten Hallock, narrowing the gap for Barrhead.

Thirty seconds into the second period, Barrios scored again to tie the game, with assistance from Watnab Tawfik and Jett Parks.

Four minutes later, Parks scored one of his own with an assist from Tawfik, bringing the score to 3-2 for Barrhead.

In the third period, the Eagles widened the gap considerably.

Kyle Kleinfeldt scored seven minutes into the frame unassisted, followed by another from Tawfik, assisted by Parks and Barrios, bringing the score to 5-2.

Tawfik’s goal was answered by Knights’ forward Bryden Arcand, who scored one minute later.

With two minutes remaining, a final goal for Barrhead was scored by Ethan Grossenbacher, assisted by Hailey Brand and Tray Preuss.

The score was a comfortable 6-3 for Barrhead, but the opposing team was not finished yet.

With only thirty seconds remaining, the Knights scored twice more, but it was not enough.

Uden said the Eagles faced off against the Knights Feb. 1 in Riviere Qui Barre for the second of the two-game series.

The results of that game are not known.
