Farewell friend, thank you for the cappuccinos

It is always sad to see something familiar leave the community, whether the ‘it’ in question happens to be a good friend, a neighbour, a business or even a landmark.

It is always sad to see something familiar leave the community, whether the ‘it’ in question happens to be a good friend, a neighbour, a business or even a landmark. However, growing accustomed to things is as much a part of human nature as change is, and so maybe that’s why I’m having the difficulty in accepting that the Dandelion Bistro (located inside the Wishing Well) — one of my favourite places to have a cappuccino, will soon be closing its doors.

I haven’t been in Barrhead long enough to have stored up enough memories to tide me over through the long winter to come, but the ones I do have will have to be enough.

On the one hand, in my opinion, the soups and sandwiches provided by Anja Donkers were always top-notch and the service exceptional. On the other hand, the folk-art inspired merchandise on display always made me feel like I was back home, in my parent’s kitchen in southeastern Ontario.

In fact, to be honest, the first time I walked in there I felt a little twinge of homesickness.

Yes, it is always sad to see something go away, especially when you have memories associated with them, but that is why it is so important to fully enjoy the opportunities and experiences to be had.

Don’t live with regrets, looking at the world with cynical eyes.

When one door closes, another one opens.

Remember when Hi-Pro Feeds announced it was closing its Barrhead location and community members were upset about that? Did you know the Back Forty is under new ownership?

Things change and life goes on.

We will still be here tomorrow when the sun comes up.

Rather than mourn the loss of another business in town, I will say instead that I am grateful for the short amount of time I had to experience the culinary treats of the Dandelion Bistro.

I raise my fork to you both Anja and Dennis, and I wish you all the best in whatever comes next.

In the meantime, I expect you’ll be seeing more of me at your bakery.
