Dirty Dishes at the Coffee House

I like to be entertained. Based on the number of columns and articles I’ve written about musicians, artists and authors over the nearly three years I’ve been with this paper, to me, that fact seems fairly obvious.

Based on the number of columns and articles I’ve written about musicians, artists and authors over the nearly three years I’ve been with this paper, to me, that fact seems fairly obvious.

Either way, the point is that I’m in a position where I get to use a slice of the op-ed page every other week to promote something I like, to discuss something I believe is important or to recount one experience or another from the road that I’ve gathered.

And this week is no different.

As I said, I like to be entertained and I’m always on the lookout for something that will tickle my fancy, whether it’s a new song, TV show, book, novelty, or trinket.

Because I’m an advocate of live music, I like to keep my eyes peeled on the announcements and news pages from groups like the Barrhead Arts Council and the Home Routes Concert Series, not because I don’t want to shell out the big bucks or because I don’t like large crowds, but because I enjoy new things.

If I wanted to see the Tragically Hip, Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran or someone else equally famous, I would — there is literally nothing from stopping me doing so.

I’m more interested in seeing top-calibre performers in far more intimate settings and that brings me, in a round-about way, to my point.

On Feb. 11, Connections Coffee House in Sangudo is hosting the first of its Home Routes Concert Series performances for 2018 and the name on the bill is the Dirty Dishes.

They are a trio of classy yet sassy, funny and entertaining women who perform a variety of country, bluegrass and gospel songs utilizing beautiful three-part harmonies, fiddles and other instruments.

The concert doesn’t start until 7:30 and the coffee house is having a buffet dinner at 6 p.m. for all those who RSVP ahead of time, so if you have $25 and feel like maybe you want to dance, sing and have a good time, why not get yourself a ticket.

The food is good too.
