So, how was your Christmas and New Years Barrhead?
I hit the trail and spent mine in California.
I don’t think there’s anything better for the soul, especially when you’re alone, than bugging out and hitting the beach.
And I really needed it.
Christmas has always been one of my favourite times of the year but this year just didn’t feel like it to me.
Maybe its because I just didn’t have the Christmas cheer this year or maybe it had to do with something else, a cold or whatever, but the truth is, I’m glad I left the bitter cold and the snow behind.
True, I did have last minute doubts about the trip in general and about leaving my colleague to handle things while I took some much-needed ‘me’ time, but sometimes you just have to do things for yourself.
I was a little worried that I would be heading into some kind of apocalypse because the southern part of the state was battling wildfires and the like, but I needn’t have been so afraid.
Seeing the Golden Gate Bridge has always been on my bucket list and being able to walk across it, to peer up at the towers as I passed beneath, reliving scenes from my favourite feature films was a pure joy.
Personally, I’d recommend the trip to anyone who needs to get away.
It’s only a day’s drive, two if you stop somewhere and have a snooze.
And the weather is fantastic.
It’s true what they say in the songs — California really does have the best climate.
I’m proud to be Canadian but I think I fell in love with the Golden State.
