Bolts electrify Hawks in provincials

For the Barrhead Bolts, the first game of provincial playdowns was an easy win. The Atom 2 Bolts faced off against the Athabasca 2B Hawks Jan.

For the Barrhead Bolts, the first game of provincial playdowns was an easy win.

The Atom 2 Bolts faced off against the Athabasca 2B Hawks Jan. 19 , at the Barrhead Agrena, in the first of a two-game, total-points series and defeated their opponents 7-1.

Barrhead started the game off with a bang, with Mason Zwicker scoring the first goal barely one minute into the match.

Zwicker’s goal, assisted by Cash Gilbert, was followed by one from Kobe Ostopchuk with three minutes left in the period, assisted by Magnus Kaplan and Gilbert, and one from Gilbert, assisted by Liam McCauley and James McKeever at the 19:30 second mark.

Heading into the second period, the score was 3-0 for Barrhead.

While Athabasca was unable to rally, the Bolts continued to swarm their opponents and the period ended with a goal from Gilbert, assisted by Tanner Harrison and Easton Olthius.

With the Hawks now trailing 0-4, the Bolts cemented their victory early in the third with a goal four minutes in from Gunnar Lyons, assisted by Mason Olson and Zwicker.

Lyons goal was followed by one from Beauliua, on an assist from Lyons and Olson.

While it looked like the Bolts would earn a flawless victory, the Hawks managed to rally with five minutes remaining and got one past Bolts goaltender Drake Young.

However, with the score now 6-1 for Barrhead, the Bolts answered back with a second goal from Beauliua at the one minute mark, assisted by Ostopchuk and Olson and the game ended 7-1.
