The Barrhead Renegades Midget B team pulled out all the stops including playing strong defence in the final minutes of the third period in an attempt to pull even with the Winfield Mighty Ducks.

And it just about worked.

On Friday, Jan. 8, at the Barrhead Agrena, the Renegades lost to the Winfield Ducks 5 to 3, but not before they made it interesting.

With about eight minutes to go in the game the Renegades pulled within one after scoring two quick goals less than two minutes apart. The first goal of the flurry was a power play by Frank Scholten. The other goal by Jayden Baron, made the score 4 to 3 for Winfield.

Unfortunately for the Renegades that was as close as they they could come. Although the Renegades did have scoring opportunities as time ticked down, so did Winfield.

In an attempt to tie the game Barrhead gave up a number of odd man rushes, including two breakaways, which were stopped by goaltender Ty Steinbring, but eventually the Mighty Ducks were able to seal the deal by scoring the insurance goal with just over three minutes left to play.

Steinbring replaced starting goaltender Dawson Fisher at the start of the second period.

In the first period the Mighty Ducks got off to an early two goal lead. Barrhead’s TK Mueller narrowed the lead scoring at the 17 minute mark, but less than a minute later the Ducks restored their two goal lead.

At the end of the first period the score was 3 to 1 for Winfield and that’s how it remained until the four minute mark of the third period when the Ducks scored their fourth goal.
