Actions are better than words

Resolutions are only words if actions do not back them up. It happens every year. We make grand gestures and think we can do everything, but then life gets in the way or we backslide or whatever. I know how it is.

Resolutions are only words if actions do not back them up.

It happens every year.

We make grand gestures and think we can do everything, but then life gets in the way or we backslide or whatever.

I know how it is.

I’ve personally made a few resolutions that I couldn’t, or didn’t want to, follow through on this last year and I can’t believe that I’m the only one who backslid.

After all, we are only human.

We make mistakes and yet we have the potential for great things.

While we may have good intentions however, sometimes we need a bit of motivation to keep us going.

Whether you’ve resolved to walk an extra kilometre on the walking track or you’ve decided to step out of your comfort zone and do something crazy like take skydiving lessons, the point is to stay the course.

If we don’t, why bother to make resolutions at all?

I’m not trying to sound like I’m scolding anyone here.

In fact, I’m putting myself on the record.

I am interested in the aforementioned skydiving lessons and in an effort to break out of my own comfort zone, I fully intend on going through with this once it is warmer.

However, I bet you I scream all the way down and I know, whether it is legal or not, I’ll probably have to be pushed out of the plane.

My fingernails will probably leave gouges in the metal of the doorframe too.

Aside from that, I’m also going to try to get to know more of the people around me.

I’m already well acquainted with the town and county councils, club presidents and some of the other movers and shakers around here, but I’d like to get to know some of my neighbours and make a few more friends as well.

I like new experiences and while I get paid to do so, I love hearing stories and not simply because it is my job.

With luck, maybe I’ll see you in the sky or elsewhere.

I’m the guy with the black toque and the bright green fiesta.

Don’t be shy.

I don’t bite.

2016 had its ups and downs but it is over and done with.

It’s water under the bridge.

I hope 2017 is more prosperous for all of us, especially the farmers.

Have a great New Year Barrhead, I’ll see you in January.
