A reminder that there is good in the world

In today’s world it is easy to become jaded. With all the news stories about crime, poverty and terrorist attacks, it is easy to forget that there is good in the world. But there is and I was reminded of that last week after I had a turn of bad luck.

In today’s world it is easy to become jaded.

With all the news stories about crime, poverty and terrorist attacks, it is easy to forget that there is good in the world.

But there is and I was reminded of that last week after I had a turn of bad luck.

My wife and I were driving to Westlock on our way to dinner to celebrate our anniversary when we heard this horrible knocking sound coming from the back of our vehicle.

Or at least we thought it was our vehicle. At about the same time a pickup truck appeared in our rearview mirror. It turns out the noise we heard was caused by a flat tire and the pickup was a friendly Good Samaritan following us to make sure we arrived at our destination unscathed.

By the time we were able to pull over safely to inspect the damage we were in Westlock proper. While we were doing so a second individual appeared.

Before we knew it the two gentlemen were busy changing our tire. Apparently, I didn’t give off the vibe that I was capable of doing so on my own and they were probably right. The last time I changed a tire it was the early 1990s, I was 19 years old driving an old rusted out Honda Civic.

And if I was still driving my old beater I might have been able to muddle through.

But I’m not and it seems like the process is a tad bit more complicated with my current vehicle.

At least if my pseudo answers to the questions the two gentlemen were asking me were any indication. The first one was pretty easy; do you have a spare and where is it? Although I was pretty sure of its location and how to get to it, I wasn’t actually sure if it was there. It was.

I also knew the answer to where the key to my security lug nut was, but without their prompts I wouldn’t have known what it was.

Needless to say these two gentlemen made the whole process much easier.

So on behalf of my wife and myself, thank you for not only for helping to salvage our anniversary celebration, but also in helping remind me that there is kindness in the world.
