Sangudo tractor pull draws big crowd

Jul 03, 2012 06:00 am

Rain and mud … there were plenty of challenges facing the Ol’ Pembina Tractor Pull Society before it could even start hosting the Sangudo Farmers Day tractor pull.

Finally the event got under way several hours late on Saturday, June 9, until another shower forced the Bantams to put off their pulls on Sunday.

About 54 tractors entered the two-day event. The demo featured two trucks, one a 1940 two-ton Fargo vehicle owned by George Suntzens, the other a 1946 three-ton Ford owned by George Suntzens, and one twin Allis Chambers tractor.

The weather held off on Sunday until the ribbons were given out when it started to rain again.

The feature tractor for June was Bonnie Harapchuks’ Massey Harris 55.

After the pull on Saturday, the tractor club sponsored a roast beef supper in the evening.

The next day volunteers and club members had a beef on a bun lunch after the pull.

Some of the tractor club members held a demonstration on Sunday, June 17 for Sangudo’s 100th homecoming anniversary.

The next tractor pull will be on Sept. 1 and 2nd at the field across from the sports grounds.
